Caythorpe Primary School is a “Good” Ofsted rated school outside Grantham, Lincolnshire. Despite being a rural school, we maintain high standards and last year achieved record SATs results. Dr Caroline Johnson (MP) sent a letter to congratulate staff and pupils on their fantastic achievements.
The school strives to provide a varied and engaging curriculum through the use of technology and community engagement. We have a close relationship with Caythorpe Residential Home, every year our pupils visit to perform a choir concert for the residents. More recently, our community engagement has spread further afield with the school donating our old classroom furniture to schools in Gambia.
Technology plays a central role in our curriculum with children: using the internet to research dinosaurs or Ernst Shackleton’s Antarctica voyage; getting to grips with PowerPoint and how to create an engaging presentation; accessing Scratch, a simple programming website for children; and more.
What do we want?
Who is this for?
The BeeBots will be for use by the whole school. They can help our EYFS children to understand cause and effect as they programme the bots to move in a certain way. As children move into Year 1 and Year 2, the BeeBots provide an introduction into programming and coding before they begin using Scratch. This theme continues as our older children use the bots in Maths and IT to show their working by programming them to follow strict routes.
Why do we want it?
IT is maintained throughout the whole curriculum showing our children how technology can be used and developing their proficiency in using IT systems. With the world becoming more dependent on technology and children being introduced to coding at an earlier age, the BeeBots provide an accessible pathway to coding. This earlier introduction will also mean we can encourage our children to tackle more complex projects when using Scratch.
Where your money goes!
5 x BeeBots @ £228 each
Total = £1,140 (inc VAT)
If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would purchase further BeeBot sets for the school.
