Getting Coombe Girls' School more active

Help boost energy levels!

The Parents and Friends Association at Coombe Girls' School invite you to help with funding a table tennis table and associated equipment for use in the playground.

We are determined to help our girls be more active during the school day. Being active outside the classroom helps with concentration, fitness and building strong friendship groups. We are excited about increasing the provision of extra curricular equipment students can use in their breaks and free time.

With Paralympic Gold medallist Will Bayley appearing on Strictly Come Dancing this year, many more people around the country are being inspired to take up table tennis.

This is the first time we have tried crowdfunding to support a specific project and we would love to meet our target and get more girls playing sport for fun!

KEY STATS

Number of students that will benefit: 690

Age of students: 11-18 (although project is predominantly aimed at 11-14 year olds)

Percentage eligible for free school meals: 23%

OUR PROJECT

Working with the PE department, the PFA are fundraising to develop sports facilities and to purchase sports equipment for the girls to use inside and outside lesson time to promote participation in multiple sports, support healthy lifestyles and boost confidence and energy levels.

About us

Coombe Girls School is an outstanding non-selective secondary academy in New Malden. The Parents and Friends Association is a small committee working with and for all parents and carers to raise funds and support activities inside and outside school to enrich learning to enable all students to develop and contribute to their community and beyond.

What do we want?

To encourage all girls at the school to get involved in sport, we want to provide additional facilities that the girls can access during break and lunchtimes.

Who is this for?

Mainly aimed at the lower school - years 7, 8 and 9 - we want to enable all girls access physical activity without necessarily being part of a school team or club.

Why do we want it?

As parents and carers of Coombe Girls, we know that the transition to secondary school, and indeed to adulthood, is a scary time for many. Developing good habits now, particularly around physical and mental health, will be invaluable to the girls as they get older; making them healthier, more resilient and keen to keep active throughout their lives
