OUR PROJECT

About us

We are the science department at Hawthorn High School, Pontypridd. Here at Hawthorn we believe we can offer the opportunities and security children need to achieve their best. Everything we do is driven by our commitment to provide our children with the highest standards of teaching and learning.

What do we want?

We want our students to appreciate that for many people in developing countries modern energy is completely inaccessible, and yet the problems they face daily are unsolvable without it.

The most powerful natural resource available is the sun. Solar technology uses this to provide these communities with the electrical energy they need. We want the students to have a hands out experience of how STEM fields can help solve these real world issues.

Who is this for?

This is for us to use to develop cross curricular links in learning.

Why do we want it?

A STEM focused curricular linked to real world problems. This will ensure that our learners are ambitious and creative who are also ethically informed citizens with the skillset to ensure they have a success future.
