Giving teachers and learners greater use of technology in the classroom

KEY STATS

Number of students that will benefit: 30 originally; 1600 total

Age of students: 11-18

We have over 1600 students across the entire school. We will target as many of these across Years 7-13 as is possible: by developing their skills whilst engaging and inspiring them to use technology to help them achieve more.

MY PROJECT

Imberhorne is an Outstanding School in the town of East Grinstead. We look outwardly to build capacity in the wider community through links with business and our educational networks.

We already have a Google learning platform or G-Suite so it makes sense that we maximise the benefits from using it. The automation and productivity that this allows is a life-changing for both teachers and students alike, it also provides learners with work related skills as most businesses now use these same applications in the workplace. Because it's automated, teachers will have time freed up to teach and students will be able to spend more time learning both in and outside of the classroom.

However, to get the most out of our G Suite, we need to build a greater capacity in its usage and join up the technology and confidence in users to use it, so.......

What we want

We want to buy 4 hours' training to go Google. Training students who will be our Digital Angel Training Team. They'll use Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides and become confident in Google Classroom as well as introduce other educational apps. They will provide training for students across the school and also share the benefits of this amazing technology with our teachers.

Who is this for?

This training is for 30 Year 10-13 students, who will be our Digital Angel Training Team. They'll then pass their knowledge onto all Imberhorne students - teachers included, to use across all subjects areas.

Why do we want it?

By training a group of students who can train others, we'll be creating a greater capacity to train students and teachers in-house throughout the school year. Everyone will be able to make greater progress and be more productive both inside and outside the classroom. We'll also focus on reaching out to disadvantaged students to get them to engage more.

If we can demonstrate how a small change can have a massive impact in one school we can collect the evidence to share with others.. It's through investing in potential and talent that will create our sustainable future, and see us collaborate, grow and evolve students as 21st Century learners.
