OUR PROJECT

About us

Oakdale Juniors is a 3 form entry school based in South Woodford, in the London borough of Redbridge. We are associated with Oakdale Infant School and pupils from KS1 classes will also benefit from the project once it is up and running. Pupils from both schools are digitally aware and we would like to increase the range of opportunities for using technology across the curriculum.

Our project is to develop and eventually embed the use of Augmented and Virtual Reality within the curriculum and across KS2 in the first instance, rolling out to KS1 soon afterwards, as well as increasing the opportunities to support learning in other areas of the curriculum. We would use the set of iPods with the Digital Leaders (13 pupils from Years 4 to 6) at first to lead and deliver an AR/VR development session for all staff and pupils. The kit can then be ‘booked’ by classes for use across the curriculum utilising the iPods many other features and apps for other cross-curricular work.

What do we want?

We want to buy a set of 6 iPod touch. Alongside this, we would like a set of 6 VR goggles and 6 Bluetooth controllers to be used in conjunction with the iPods. Our final purchase would be a multi USB charger to enable the devices to be charged safely in a classroom environment.

There are many uses in the classroom for iPods but the major consideration is that they can be used to support learning using both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

Who is this for?

All KS2 class (Y3 - Y6) and once embedded this would roll out to KS1 classes at Oakdale Infant School.

Why do we want it?

All children should have the opportunity to access technology as part of the wider curriculum. As a school community, we are expecting there to be an impact in several ways:

  • Pupils will be engaged in their learning and can take ownership of it;
  • Pupils will have a greater understanding of the key vocabulary or concepts for a topic or theme;
  • Pupils can experience places and sights outside of their location, their country or even in space;
  • Pupils will be encouraged to develop their own AR/VR content;
  • Teachers will become more confident in the application of technology within the classroom to enhance the learning experience.
