Congrats! This project has reached its minimum needed of £311 and is going for its target of £1,552!
Giving our pupils the building blocks to digital literacy success

Summary

We are raising funds to buy iPads for our Key Stage 1 classes. Due to increased funding cuts, resources are already being stretched, so we have been looking at novel ways of funding those areas that sometimes get left behind.

Our Pupils

The 90 pupils in our Key Stage 1 classes have amazing computer skills, which have been developed in EYFS through the use of iPads. Unfortunately, due to funding constraints we have been unable to purchase iPads for Key Stage 1 so the children are unable to fully develop their skills on the desktop and laptop computers available.

Our Project

A lot of our youngest pupils are digitally literate when they arrive at school and are able to build on these skills whilst in EYFS. However, as they move into Key Stage 1, they struggle to show their skills because we don't have the type of technology they are used to. They sit with the desktops and laptops and struggle with a mouse and keyboard that seem very alien to them. This struggle is necessary as laptops/desktops still have their place in the world of ICT. However, iPads in the classroom would really allow the children to show us what they can already do.

Digital artwork, phonic games, fun learning in Maths, basic research and much, much more.

This would give them a flying start in their journey to be fully 'Digitally Literate' and would allow us to challenge them more easily.

Where your donation goes

The donations will buy iPads. We have already seen the benefit of learning using them in EYFS.

If we raise the minimum amount we will be able to buy one iPad, which means that a small group of children will be able to access learning through this type of technology at any one time. If we get the full amount we will be able to buy 4 iPads (5 iPads if we raise £1,550!), this would mean that during the daily rotation of activities, children would have access to activities using modern tablet computers. Just think how this could support our children.

  • Credit card fees (2%): £30 (to cover the fees charged by the payment provider)
  • Total = £1,550

Help us reach our target!

We know how important it is to ensure in the ever changing world of technology we give children the building blocks towards digital literacy.

You don't need to give money to help us succeed! Please share this project with anyone you think would support us – on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a chat over the fence or on your blog. And we know we said you don't need to give money to help us, but we'd love it if you did! Please support us and help make a difference to our students.

THANK YOU SO MUCH

We have reached our minimum target, what an achievement.  St. Giles' School is exceptionally grateful for everyone's generosity.

Please keep sharing our project with anyone you can think of - it is amazing what a group of people can achieve in such a short space of time.

Many thanks

The children of St. Giles' School
