OUR PROJECT

About us

Ysgol Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is a small rural bilingual mixed-aged class primary school in North Wales. We have 24 students on roll.

Our school is really special, but as a small school with limited funds we want to provide stimulating enhanced activities that our children deserve. The use of additional equipment within the school would assist with promoting and accelerating progress in digital skills as well as mathematics, reading and writing in addition to opening a wealth of opportunities for skills and knowledge development across the curriculum.

Ysgol Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is in a very rural area. This brings its own unique challenges around managing school resources and supporting children to exceed expectations. At the present time we are running with a limited number of aged iPads which are very often, due to their temperamental nature, unable to support the apps that are required in a mixed-aged bilingual class with one iPad between three students.

Due to increasing budget pressures, our children have limited access to technology - in our school we have around 8 iPads to share between the 24 pupils. Regardless of our efforts, the teaching of high quality computing is limited by lack of equipment and experience in the subject. In an attempt to resolve this and to provide children with a enhanced curriculum, we are attempting to source more iPads. The aim of this project is to provide access to additional, new resources to deliver an enriching experience, engaging both teachers and pupils alike.

What do we want?

We want to replace our old, existing iPads that now do not work properly with new, unified models! We also want to extend the learning opportunities through green screening, coding and creating podcasts.

Who is this for?

All of our children, from Nursery to Year 6, will be able to use the equipment.

Why do we want it?

Technology is increasingly filtering into our everyday lives and we want to prepare our pupils for a world of life and work that will undoubtedly be full of technology. Our mission is to provide the pupils with a variety of experiences across multiple platforms to equip them with transferable skills that they can utilise across the curriculum and life.

By providing more devices we can ensure that pupils can work individually, as well as in pairs/groups, to develop their skills and access the wealth of information and resources that are constantly growing on the internet. By having devices available we'll be providing opportunities for pupils to make learning their own, in the ways that suit them. By having devices available we'll be providing opportunities for pupils to make learning their own, in the ways that suit them. For example, if they find a particular area interesting, they will be able to research this further to expand their knowledge and answer more complex questions.

Teachers will be able to plan more exciting lessons, and ultimately engage and inspire pupils who have a love and knowledge of all things computing. More and more jobs in the future will rely on children having digital literacy skills. We can ensure children have these and are ready for the next stage of their education by equipping them with this expertise.

We have a growing number of children with a Additional Educational Needs and access to iPads will enable them to engage with learning in a more visual way, helping them to make better progress. All children can also learn functional life skills that will equip them to be more independent in their adult life.
