Developing a healthcare app that people will actually use

Summary

I'm raising £614 to start putting an enterprise idea from Y9 students into reality.

My students

A group of students from Y9 - Y11 were chosen to represent the Albion Academy at a community event looking for ways to improve the health and wellbeing of Salford citizens. One group and idea stood out from the crowd and these 4 Y9 students have shown commitment, resilience and creativity to take their idea and showcase it to health and business professionals across Greater Manchester.

My project

Four Y9 students had the idea to combine the trend for faceswap / prediction apps with improving healthcare to launch Digibodees - answer a few simple lifestyle questions, upload your full body photo and their app will show you what impact your current choices are having and will have on your health. This could be extended to show impact on internal organs as well as physical appearance. This could then have links to health professionals for advice on how to change.

This group have been going almost a year. Their commitment and resilience is second to none. They have addressed conferences, sold shares in their business and bought a web domain; they have networked with health professionals and explored different business plans. They need funds to move on to prototypes and development.

Key stats

From little acorns... so the saying goes. This project may empower a small group of Y9 students with a dream to help their fellow citizens but the impact is huge. We have already launched a business academy model focussing on enterprise, finance and teamworking skills which has generated interest from over half of the current Y9; this is delivered in conjunction with Freshfields. Salford is one of the most deprived wards in the UK - if the impact is the generation of hope, it is worth doing.
