We are a large 2-3 form entry primary school based in Bellingham in the London Borough of Lewisham. We serve a deprived area of south east London and work hard to ensure that our students leave us with a positive outlook to life and learning and the abilities and aspirations that they need to go forward in life.
What do you want?
We would like to buy 10 SPRK+ robots. https://www.sphero.com/sprk-plus . These are small spherical robots that children can control using an app on the iPads that we already have.
Who is this for?
These robots could be used across the whole school from Nursery to Year 6, but they would be mostly used in KS2 where children would be able to develop their coding and debugging skills in a meaningful manner.
Why do you want it?
In the modern day, control technology, coding and programming is at the heart of many industries. Employers are also looking for people who will work well in a team and identify and solve their own problems. These robots will allow our children to develop their control technology skills in a practical and meaningful way. They will need to work with other children in order to solve increasingly complicated puzzles, identifying their own and others' mistakes and work at correcting these and overcoming obstacles. This will also build up their resilience and help them to develop a growth mindset, which is at the heart of everything we do at Elfrida.
