OUR PROJECT

About our school

Fellside Community Primary School is in Whickham, in the North East of England. We are a small school with a huge love of learning. Our learning mission is to provide an inspiring, caring environment in which we are all challenged and supported to maximise our potential.

Our goal

We wish to raise money to purchase a class set of Ozobots which can support us in developing our programming skills. Computing has undergone a huge curriculum change in recent years and the emphasis placed on advance programming skills from as early as 5 years old has greatly increased. We are embracing this challenge by seeking out new opportunities to enrich our curriculum, and have discovered Ozobots! They are an excellent piece of kit which inspire creativity while also mastering codes and algorithms. The tiny robots are programmed using colour-coded line drawings which can be planned to create games, dances and art. A specialised program, Ozoblocky, can be used on our iPads to program the bots in coded blocks and can be accessed across the primary age range.

We would purchase 10 of these bots initially to use in groups of 3 in class. The bots would each come with a set of pens and example codes which children can practice with. If we raise about our target, we will be able to buy the Ozobot class pack which includes 18 Ozobots and many more activities which can stretch further across the school and allow for greater advancement in the children's programming education.

Ozobots allow for a wealth of activities across the primary age with our current technologies could not deliver. The collaborative nature of these devices also mean that the children will be able to discuss their logical thinking as they plan, develop and debug their programs. Creativity and collaboration are a key part of our values as a school!
