MY PROJECT

Herons Dale Primary School in Shoreham is a very special school catering for local children who have a wide range of learning difficulties. We aim to ensure that each and every child is happy and secure so that they can enjoy learning and develop the skills they will need to lead lives to their full potential.

Herons Dale has operated as a Community Special School since October 2015, supporting pupils with a wide range of learning difficulties and associated special needs.

The school is maintained by West Sussex County Council and admits boys and girls aged 4 – 11 years who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Every member of the teaching and support team is committed to providing a stimulating learning environment in which all pupils can feel happy, valued, safe, secure and confident. All of our children’s achievements are celebrated, no matter how small they are because we recognise that each step of learning is important to every child and their family.

The school was rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED following an inspection in December 2017.

What do you want?

Communicate in Print 3 software

(30 x Installations Licence https://www.widgit.com/products/inprint/index.htm?_route_=inprint#waystobuy )

Who is this for?

Communicate in Print is for every member of our community, who will access this either directly or indirectly. Teachers will make resources, symbols, timetables, accessible books and so much more. Students will use it to support their writing development and parents, carers, drivers and escorts will access it through requests for such things as social stories, symbols, wash hands sequences.

Why do you want it?

The subscription for the current program we use will run out at the end of this year. We are a TOTAL COMMUNICATION school, which means we use speech, sign, symbol and a wealth of other tools to facilitate, support and develop communication for the individual and the wider community. Communicate in print is a vital part of this approach. It produces all our symbols, whether they be for class, displays, communication books, newsletters or class work. The newest version will allow greater flexibility in adapting symbols and writing to meet our needs. It provides a wealth of formats that will ensure greater ease of access for both staff, pupils and with a little technical support, parents can produce their own symbols at home. This will be a major improvement for our parents and carers.

UPDATE! wE ARE NOW AIMING FOR OUR Stretch Target!

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We have been incredibly fortunate and have already hit our initial target of £1318.80. We would now like to hit our stretch target of £2278.80, which will allow us to purchase an unlimited installation licence for Communicate in Print (£2278.80 incl. VAT). We would also love to purchase some laptops and wireless access point accessories, to ensure that all pupils, irrespective of physical, sensory or emotional need can access IT in an environment that best meets their needs. We believe that the individual should thrive in our school and laptops will support that.

HELP US REACH OUR TARGET!
