OUR PROJECT

About us

At Horsforth School we firmly believe in opportunity and achievement for all - we aim to equip all students with the confidence, competence, knowledge, skills and understanding to fit easily and actively into a rapidly changing society. We want all students to enjoy learning and achieve their potential, not just in their studies but in sporting, creative and practical endeavours.

What do we want?

We would like to buy a 3D printer.

Who is this for?

All students from Years 7-13.

Why do we want it?

A 3D printer would be a fantastic addition to the Design, Technology and Engineering Department at Horsforth School.

3D printing, a new and emerging technology, is firmly at the front of modern day manufacturing. As the process becomes more affordable, it would be an amazing opportunity for students to gain experience and expertise in this manufacturing process. Not only will this help to strengthen their applications for apprenticeships and universities, but it will also ignite students’ creativity and imagination to realise some of their designs.

A 3D printer would allow students to design using a computer aided modelling software and then print their prototype design within an hour lesson. This will place the product in their hands and allow them to create endless iterations to improve and develop their ideas which exactly mirrors the practice of companies within the design and manufacturing industry. It would be truly inspiring for Horsforth School students to realise this in a classroom setting.

We believe that this technology would excite and encourage creativity and inspire future generations of designers and engineers.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

1 x 3D Printer https://shop.beeverycreative.com/product/beethefirst/

Total = £1,500.00 (incl VAT & delivery)

If we reach our minimum target of £1,000 then the project will still go ahead as the remaining money will be funded by our PTA. However, we would love to raise the full amount of £1,500 which would allow the PTA to support other worthy school projects.

STRETCH TARGET

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would also like to buy consumables for the 3D printer. This would enable us to get a wide variety of different colours and materials providing our students with even more tools to realise their creations.
