OUR PROJECT

About us

First, thank you to all those who helped us to raise nearly £400 for our last project, the children are now using the headphones daily to help them make the most of computing lessons! We are really grateful for your incredible generosity.

Manorside Academy is part of the Ambitions Academies Trust and provides children with a caring learning environment in which they can flourish. We are a bright and vibrant learning community who cater for children aged 4 - 11 years old and were recently rated Outstanding by Ofsted.

We serve a socially varied part of Poole, including double the national average of Pupil Premium eligible children and are determined to ensure all of our pupils will have the best chances in life.

What do we want?

A class set of 30 Chromebooks; low-cost laptops that are perfect for accessing online educational tools quickly. We already have one thanks to our parents, so we need to buy 29 more.

Who is this for?

At least one year group uses the laptops each day in Key Stage 2 (7-11) for cross-curricular work (such as history or geography research), times table quiz practice, or typing up their written work.

Why do we want it?

Using a computer can be an excellent means of engaging children with a subject, enabling them to find out more about the world and themselves, with their teacher as a guide. Also, online practice has proven to be a very effective means of helping children improve recall of their times tables, to support their mental arithmetic.

We have 8 classes in KS2, but unfortunately, only a dwindling number of older laptops that take 5-10 minutes to boot and have poor battery life. Refreshing the equipment nearing the end of its life will help increase the amount of learning time the children get during lessons using laptops and hopefully improve the quality of their learning too!

Through the Manorside Academy Association, our supporters have already generously bought a single Asus c202sa for the school which, after trialling with special needs children, it has proven to have fantastic battery life (9 hours +), near instant loading and a child-friendly, rubberised casing. They are perfect for our children's needs.

Sub total = £4,524 (Inc. VAT & delivery)

-£1000 we have already raised through a recent staff obstacle course, thanks to many generous donations (the rest of the £1400 raised is being spent on books to update the library).

+3% payment processing fees (charged by the payment provider)

Grand total = £3630

We know we're being ambitious here! So, if we raise half that amount for 15 Chromebooks, we'll still be in a much better position than with the current laptops the children are struggling with.

STRETCH TARGET

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would also like to buy some Lego Mindstorm equipment for computer-controlled technology teaching.

HELP US REACH OUR TARGET!

As we're going for such a big fundraising target, we need to get local businesses involved to help, as well as the smaller donations that add up. Therefore, if you or a family member works for a company in Poole or nearby that might want to give something back to their community, please pass along the link to our page. We'd be delighted to welcome them in for photos with the children and the new laptops they've helped to buy, for a donation of £500 or more.

Thank you so much for all your support. You are helping to give children better chances in life.
