OUR PROJECT

About us

We are a large Primary School with over 400 pupils in Newport, South Wales. Milton Primary School is an English medium school that currently has the capacity for 88 children per year group, three class intake. It also has a nursery with the capacity for 68 children per session. The nursery runs two sessions (morning / afternoon). We are in a highly-deprived area but despite this our children are all wonderful and have such a willingness to learn.

We are so conscious of the world in which we are preparing our children for. We are working towards using the new 4 core purposes within our curriculum following on from the new Donaldson Report in Wales. The new Digital Competence Framework (DCF) really prepares the children for the future so that they can be successful; we are aware that not all children will become computer programmers (hence the coding element of the curriculum) but we would like to commit to safeguarding our children and preparing them to be the best and most responsible digital leaders possible, in what is an uncertain world.

Equipment around the school is very poor and very sparse. We would love to have enough equipment in the school to set up an I-Suite for pupils to go in and be creative and to develop the forever developing ICT skills and train as many Digital Leaders as possible to support other pupils around the school.

What do we want?

Initially we want to train 8 Digital Leaders in all areas of the DCF so they can develop skills and be able to support peers within their learning. In order for us to do this we would like to purchase some Chromebooks, Lego WeDo sets and Green Screen equipment.

Who is this for?

This is for the whole school to use in our I-Suite and within the classroom. We will begin by training our Digital Leaders so they can transfer their knowledge to peers within their classroom and then throughout the school.

Why do we want it?

We would love all of this equipment to help us learn and develop new skills. We want to take our learning to a whole new level, where we can use different apps, experiment with coding by working together in teams and individually. We want to make our lessons even more exciting and engaging. We feel it is our duty to prepare the children in the best possible way to keep themselves safe online, to become ambassadors for the rest of the school and for their future in moving on to secondary school and ultimately their adult working life. What better way than to become Digital Leaders!

STRETCH TARGET

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would also like to buy more Chromebooks: we are aiming to get a set of 25 so we have a full class set.
