OUR PROJECT

About us

Our school is situated on the perimeter of the historic market town of Morpeth. The school serves a wide rural community and catchment area and presently has 213 children on roll. We are a first school with traditional values linked to the Church of England.

What do we want?

We would like 2 Colour changing light panels and a Lego WeDo 2.0 kit for 8 students.

Who is this for?

The light panels will predominately be used for Nursery and Reception whereas the Lego kits will be used by children ranging from Reception to Year 4.

Why do we want it?

With technology being such an important and ingrained part of society, it is paramount that children are equipped with the skills to not only use but invent the new technologies for the next generation.

As ICT coordinator for our school, I want to provide children with technology that is fun, interactive and different to iPads and computers which most children have access to either through school or home.

The Lego kits are a basic introduction into how modern machinery works: you design it, build it and then program it to create your own unique robot. Not only does this help dexterity and creativity but also a deep understanding of computer processes.

The light boxes will also be able to provide this excitement to children ranging from ages 3-5 in a simple and safe way. The North East has a strong heritage in robotics and other high-tech industries; introducing children to concepts as early as possible could inspire the next generation of Computer Scientists, Designers and Engineers.

STRETCH TARGET

If we are fortunate enough to raise more than our target, we would like to buy additional robotic programming packs to enable an entire class to be involved at the same time.
